1) What is the difference between the PCDcalc and PCDcalc2 downloads?
PCDcalc should work on just about any machine running Microsoft Windows XP, Vista or 7. It notifies you of software updates but requires you to manually download the latest version of the PCDcalc exe file.
PCDcalc2 uses an enhanced user interface and can automatically download updates of itself but it does require Microsoft's .NET Version 4.0 framework or later to be installed on the computer to work. See FAQ (4).

2) PCDcalc2 says "The application failed to initialize properly (0xC0000135)". What does this mean?
PCDcalc2 requires Microsoft's .NET Version 4.0 framework or later to be installed on the computer. See FAQ (4) for more details. Alternatively you could use PCDcalc instead.

3) PCDcalc says "ERROR: cannot connect to server". What should I do?
First ensure that the machine itself can connect to the internet. Use your web browser to try to connect to any web site (ensure the default web page that appears when you open the browser is not cached by clicking the "refresh" button in your browser).
If the machine can connect to the internet, check to see if you have a software firewall enabled, and if so ensure that PCDcalc is added to the list of program exceptions that are allowed to connect over the internet.

4) How do I install Microsoft's .NET 4.0 framework?
You can download it from Microsoft's web site here. On machines running Windows XP the .NET 4.0 framework requires Service Pack 3 to be installed, and on machines running Windows Vista it requires Service Pack 1 installed. Once downloaded, it needs to be installed, which can take serveral minutes. Please note that the .NET framework is totally independent from PCDcalc. It is a common framework used by many programs that are designed to work on Microsoft Windows operating systems. As such, we cannot offer any support on installing it.

5) My firewall software says that it has blocked PCDcalc from accessing the internet. What should I do?
You should add it to the firewall's list of program exceptions so that the firewall will allow it to connect to the internet.
